What is in your Hands? Part V: The Concept of Faith

The Concept of Faith

serving-handsBefore we continue, I would like us to immediately address the concept of faith and understand what it is and how it works. My clear understanding of faith after varied study of scriptures came through the explanations put forward by Rev. Chris Oyakhilome; President of the Believers LoveWorld Nation also known as Christ Embassy. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. Pastor Chris puts it as faith is your ability to see into the unknown future and taking a hold of it. That means faith is you having that confidence that you have what you want even when the current circumstances are different. All you need is the belief, the confidence that when you asked God for it, he granted it to you and you begin to act that way. He further puts it that faith is a currency which you can use to buy anything you want.

The Christian life is a life of faith and unless you fully understand what it is and how it works, you will never be a successful Christian. When I learned this, I started imagining things, seeing and saying things that no one could believed, I started writing down things I already had, which were very far away from me, I even started seeing myself taking over nations and today, it is gradually becoming a reality.

Faith is the most important thing whenever you want the word of God to be real in your life. Faith needs to be acted out for the bible says faith without works is dead (powerless, useless, wasteful). For example, had the widow in our case study above not taken the step of faith to act on the words of the prophet, she would have remained in lack and would have finally lost her sons to the creditors, just as she lost her husband to death and could not even feed herself as a result of poverty. The bible also says that without faith it is impossible to please God; that means from the outset, the moment you want to obey the word of God, it has to be by faith. That is the same way you give your heart to Christ, for the bible says if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, you will be saved. That means for you to be born again, it is an act of faith wherein you step out and boldly declare that you believe that Jesus died for your sins even though you were not there and there is non living that was there, who can testify of such a death; but we have all believed and now can boldly say it that Jesus died and rose again for our sins and through this we gained eternal life.

That is faith for you, seeing something that is very far, and taking a hold of it. It is very easy to act our faith and we do so unknowingly everyday. For example, when you want to travel to another country and have to use an airplane, it is by faith that you will enter the plane, without any foreknowledge of who the pilot is and how the plane operates and yet you have faith that the plane and pilot will take you to your destination safely.

We all have faith freely given to us; for God has dealt to us the measure of faith and so it is our responsibility to grow it and act it and the easiest way for it to grow is through the continuous study of the word of God and taking steps of faith; for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Remember, if you want to fully enjoy the benefits of belonging to Christ, it is only through faith that such will be possible and therefore you have to start out today to act your faith and conquer your world.
